Conventional camera technologies have promoted significant advances in image-based applications, but their complicated, bulky, and heavy multi-lens optics cannot meet the requirement in advanced mobile optoelectronics for machine vision applications1. Here, we presented next generation image sensors2-4, inspired by structural and functional features of biological eyes, by using flexible optoelectronic devices based on functional nanomaterials (e.g., MoS2 and silicon nanomembrane). The human eye-inspired image sensor achieved aberration-free imaging with a single plano-convex lens because of its optically designed flexible optoelectronic devices inspired by human retina2. The aquatic vision-inspired camera, consisting of a hemispherical silicon image sensor array and a monocentric lens, enabled single lens-based wide field-of-view imaging, which allowed a simple and miniaturized machine vision camera3. The curved neuromorphic image sensor array based on MoS2/pV3D3 heterostructure enabled in-sensor image data pre-processing using photon-triggered synaptic plasticity, which improved the efficiency for image recognition4. Such bio-inspired image sensors would provide a step forward to the next generation machine vision applications.
